From morning meetings to beating the afternoon slump, piles of paperwork and endless projects, work can get stressful. By the time you leave the office, your shoulders feel like they have permanent knots. Then you remember you get to wake up and do it all over again the next day.
Your workday doesn’t have to be like this though. Here are some easy ways to loosen up and Reduce Stress – even while you’re at your desk!
Tackle the tough stuff first
Try to get more complicated tasks out of the way first thing. This way you won’t spend the majority of the day focused on a huge project, and can ease into the afternoon and end of your workday. Need a warmup before jumping right in? Start with a small task that won’t take up too much time or distract you.
Move around
Exercise keeps you healthy, and even just a little movement every day can reduce stress . Get up and take a quick stroll around the office, walk up and down the stairs or if you have time, take a walk around the block. The fresh air and exercise are a great combination. Also make sure to stretch every hour.
Snack mindfully
Aim to eat healthy snacks to help get out of the 3 p.m. post-lunch slump. Instead of reaching for chips, candy or anything too sugary, try a handful of nuts, an apple with almond butter or veggies with hummus. Be sure to take your time and enjoy your snack too, rather than wolfing it down to get straight back to work.
Clear up your space
Your space and environment have an effect on your attitude so a cluttered desk definitely adds stress to your day. Make sure your desk area is both clean and decorated to reduce stress . Add a plant or two, colorful office accessories and photos of your favorite people and places.
Breathe
Sometimes in the chaos of the workday, we forget to take a minute (or five) and just breathe. Taking 10 deep breaths can instantly help you relax if you’re pressed for time.
