May 15 to June 15 marks National Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month. It’s a time of year when advocates of Tourette Syndrome raise awareness about the neurological disorder that still leaves researchers and healthcare providers with many unanswered questions.
Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that usually becomes evident in early childhood or adolescence. Currently, the estimates are that 1 out of every 160 children between the ages of 5-17 in the United States has TS, and that 1 out of every 100 children has TS or another Tic Disorder. While there is no cure for Tourette Syndrome, thanks to years of dedicated research, there are various treatment options.
